ZenMax CALMING AGENT by GenMax is a supplemental feed product that typically decreases fighting of bucks during the rut period as well as reduces stress on deer whenever treating, handling, or moving them. This supplement is based on empirical research and has been tested on one of the owner’s deer farm for 3 years. In tests across the country last year, there were a number of farms that experienced positive observable results.
ZenMax CALMING AGENT was
developed by GenMax as a top-dress or
incorporated supplement in response to
a need to keep animals calm during
times of stress.
ZenMax CALMING AGENT is designed to reduce anxiety, maintain healthy nervous system function, promote focus, and support relaxation.
Dr. Shipley is a veterinarian with over

When you want to minimize injury and loss due to fighting or the stress due to handling and movement
We recommend feeding ZenMax CALMING AGENT prior to rut and all through rut, typically September through December. When treating, handling, or moving deer, we recommend a dose of 0.1 pound per 200 pound of body weight for 5 -7 days prior to the event.
Dr. Balsbaugh is a PhD in animal
nutrition and has worked in the feed
industry for 41 years. He has worked

They formed the GenMax company to
specifically market this product, along
with MaleMaxx, which they feel will
help some industries, farms, and
ranches that desire improved animal
well-being and higher profitability.

All industries are different from one another in the worth of their animals. The extreme example of this is in the whitetail deer industry. Stocker bucks and breeding stock does are worth several thousand dollars depending on the genetics used on the farm. However, an injured deer with a broken antler or pedicle infection may be discounted thousands of dollars. And if young bucks fight to the death, that could be a total loss of $5,000-$7,000.
Broken legs from being chased and bullied, can affect growth patterns of both males and females. Moreover, broken antlers can affect the next years antler growth which can lead to abnormal antlers year after year.
When it comes to human safety, deer are the most dangerous animals, especially during rut. Calmer deer make it easier for you to enter pens and treat them without injury to you or them.
Even with show livestock, when hauling, moving, preparing, and showing animals, it is critical to minimize stress and anxiety.
At less than $0.60 per day per animal, it is definitely worth feeding ZenMax to avoid a potential loss of an animal that has been raised for several years with no return.
Prior to release into the ranch: In order to minimize stress, it is important that the deer consume the 0.1 pounds of ZenMax per head per day for two weeks. Some people top dress and some do a total mixed ration or side dress. It does not matter as long as they consume the recommended amount.
Once on the ranch: When feeding from an automatic feeder where it is harder to control amount consumed, we recommend that you calculate disappearance of feed and estimate consumption amounts as closely as you can. You can then calculate amount to put in feeder with your other feed on the days that you need to minimize stress.
The challenge of course is getting the product into the deer at the right time prior to harvest season and treatment periods. You may want to start feeding 2-4 weeks ahead of your normal routine activities. The product does not have any adverse effects if animals overconsume the mixed feed.
